United Airlines UAL, -2.13% is investigating the death of a dog on Monday evening in an overhead compartment of a flight from Houston to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Maggie Gremminger, a passenger on a flight, reported on Twitter TWTR, -4.67% : “I want to help this woman and her daughter. They lost their dog because of an @united flight attendant. My heart is broken.” (There were photos of the deceased dog posted on social media.) An attendant insisted that the woman put her dog, which was held in a Transportation Security Administration-approved pet carrier, in an overhead compartment, The New York Post reported. Passengers also reportedly heard the dog bark during the flight, but didn’t seem to realize the animal was in distress. Another passenger wrote on Facebook FB, -2.66% : “I held her baby as the mother attempted to resuscitate their 10 month old puppy.” United had the most animal deaths of all U.S. airlines in 2017 for the third year in a row on scheduled domestic or international passenger flight, according to the latest Department of Transportation data. Fact Check: Is There 'Literally No Evidence' Russia Was Behind the Skripal Poisoning?
There is definitely evidence.12:25 PM, MAR 21, 2018 | By HOLMES LYBRAND WEEKLY STANDARD On his website, John Laurits (a self-identified communist based in Oregon) claimed that there is “no evidence” that Russia was involved in the poisoning of former Russian spy and double agent, Sergei Skripal. The blog post was shared on Facebook pages including “Thinking Progressives” and “Real Progressives” before users flagged it as potentially containing inaccurate information. On March 4, Skripal and his 33-year-old daughter, Yulia, were found slumped over on a park bench in Salisbury after being poisoned by a nerve agent. At least 21 people have received medical treatment due to the attack. In 2006, Skripal was convicted of working with British secret services since the ‘90s and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. In 2010 he was pardoned as part of a spy swap in which Russia gave up Skripal and three others for 10 Russian spies abroad. In her address to the Commons, Prime Minister Theresa May stated that "either this was a direct action by the Russian state against our country, or the Russian government lost control of its potentially catastrophically damaging nerve agent and allowed it to get into the hands of others." The nerve agent referred to belongs to a series known colloquially as “Novichok.” Novichok was developed in Russia during the 1970s and ‘80s to attack NATO troops. read more Our friend Dave Sussman and his conversation with Victor Davis Hanson:
