HOW MODERATE IS KAMALA HARRIS?

Joe Biden and his handlers are hoping that Kamala Harris can fill two roles. They hope she will be the social justice warrior who fires up the Democratic base, but at the same time come across as moderate and non-threatening to more centrist voters. After all, there’s better than a small chance that, if elected, Biden won’t serve out his first term.

The social justice firebrand part shouldn’t be difficult for Harris, but how can she simultaneously present a moderate image?

The mainstream media intends to do its part to help. As Steve noted, the New York Times has already labeled Harris a “pragmatic moderate.”

How moderate is Harris? So moderate that she blasted Biden for opposing school busing decades ago. Busing children in the name of racial balancing is an idea so far to the left that Biden, who repudiated many of his past positions to appease the left, stuck to his guns in opposing busing.

How moderate is Harris? The American Conservative Union gave her 0 percent rating for her votes as Senator. Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer managed to reach 5 percent. Hell, even Elizabeth Warren came in at 3 percent.

How moderate is Harris? The Republican Attorneys General Association declared that during her time as California’s attorney general, she was “the nation’s most liberal attorney general.”

I don’t see how Harris can appeal to centrist voters. The problem won’t just be her record and the positions she takes on current issues. To fire up the base, she will have to be fiery. She will have to demagogue — something she’s rather good at.

With apologies to “We Have Your Back,” she will come across as shrill and threatening. And Biden may come across as immoderate for unleashing her.  read more

THE TRUTH ABOUT BIDEN IS GETTING OUT

The Democratic Party press has been assuring us breathlessly that the Republicans are in deep trouble, cruising toward a disaster in November. At the same time, they assiduously avoid mentioning that the party with the real problem is their own. The Democrats’ nominee is suffering from an advanced case of dementia that makes it difficult for him to appear in public. The party’s leaders, to the extent they have any, are undoubtedly strategizing ways of getting him off the ticket following their “convention”–which they won’t actually hold. An unbiased observer might think it is the Democrats, not the Republicans, who have reason to fear the voters’ verdict this Fall. And that is before we even start talking about the riots.

Somehow, despite the press blockade, word about Joe Biden has gotten out. Rasmussen got this stunning poll result: 59% of respondents don’t think Biden will be around to finish a four-year term, should he be elected. And it isn’t only Republicans who doubt that Biden will be well enough to serve out a term in office. Forty-nine percent of Democrats agree that if Biden wins, it is likely his vice-president will assume the office within four years. No wonder Biden’s handlers are pondering his Veep selection carefully!

Bear in mind that it is only August. Most people haven’t yet begun paying attention to politics. The public’s perception that Joe Biden is more or less incapacitated will only grow as voters see him in action and begin following events more closely. Of course, the Democrats want to make this year’s election a referendum on President Trump, whom they think they have fatally weakened with non-stop smears over the last four years. They might be right. But I seriously doubt that a majority of Americans will vote for a candidate whom they rightly see as suffering from seriously diminished capacities. Which raises once again the question whether Biden will actually be on the ballot in November.  read more
EDITORIAL: Kamala Harris joins Biden on the Democratic ticket

Las Vegas Review-Journal
 August 11, 2020 - 9:00 pm

To the surprise of nobody, Joe Biden on Tuesday announced that Sen. Kamala Harris of California will join the Democratic ticket as his vice presidential nominee. Sen. Harris becomes the first Black woman to become a major party’s VP selection.

The move signals that Mr. Biden’s leftward tack is no illusion. During a failed bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Harris — who clashed with Mr. Biden on a number of issues — glommed on to many hard-left policy positions in an effort to attract the party’s vocal collectivist base. She all but disavowed her years as a former San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general. Prosecuting criminals is now taboo in progressive circles.

Among other things, Sen. Harris supported the budget-busting “Medicare for All” proposal put forth by socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, who admitted it would require large tax hikes on the middle class. She’s also an avid proponent of the Green New Deal offered by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Together, those two boondoggles would cost taxpayers upward of $11 trillion a year — almost triple what the U.S. government spent in fiscal 2019.

In addition, Sen. Harris has made clear she would repeal the Trump tax cuts. Never mind that the 2017 reform resulted in simplified returns for most middle-class wage earners and allowed the great majority of Americans to keep more of their own money. Sen. Harris is also an ardent gun control advocate who argues the Second Amendment conveys no individual right to bear arms. She favors “free” college and is an opponent of most school reforms, preferring instead to throw her lot with the entrenched education establishment, which seeks to force students to remain captive in failing public schools.

If Sen. Harris has her way, the government will play a much more active role in Americans’ daily lives and hijack a much larger chunk of their bank accounts.

None of this means that Sen. Harris’s perspectives will prevail if Mr. Biden wins the November election, of course. As John Nance Gardner said of his tenure as FDR’s second in command, “the vice presidency isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.” But given Mr. Biden’s advanced age and his penchant for rambling gaffes, Sen. Harris may be much more influential and active than your traditional vice president should the Democrats prevail.

Moments after Mr. Biden announced his selection, President Donald Trump tweeted out a video about the Democratic ticket. “Voters rejected Harris. They smartly spotted a phony. But not Joe Biden. He’s not that smart,” a narrator says. “Slow Joe and phony Kamala. Perfect together, wrong for America.”

According to NBC News, Mr. Trump twice donated to Harris when she was an attorney general candidate. You can’t make this stuff up. On to November.

Joe Biden's Awful Vice Presidential Pick

By Ben Shapiro
August 12, 2020

For well over a year, former Vice President Joe Biden has carried forth a simple strategy: Be nonthreatening. Facing a volatile, mistake-prone incumbent, Biden merely had to mimic vital signs, stay out of the spotlight and avoid looking off-putting or radical. And he accomplished those objectives, to great effect. He barely stumbled his way through the Democratic primaries, representing the nonradical voting repository for those alienated by the extremism of Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren; he refused to kowtow to the Twitter blue checkmarks calling for him to endorse rioting and looting; he shied away from insane slogans about defunding the police. He stayed in the basement, playing prevent defense against President Donald Trump.

All he had before him was one final hurdle: picking a vice president.  read more
